Meet Laura.

Laura Bashista

Laura has been married to her husband Brian since 2010 and is the proud mom of five, three of whom have completed swim survival skills training. She was born in Hawaii, raised between Virginia and Florida, and became a Delaware resident in 2009. Growing up on the East Coast meant being surrounded by water activities. She was always on the boat, in the pool, at the beach, or at the lake.

Prior to moving to Delaware, Laura spent several years serving as a volunteer emergency medical technician. Her love for the water combined with her experiences as an EMT has made her passionate about the importance of aquatic skills for children. She has been an advocate for survival swim training and has actively worked to bring needed training to her area.

When Laura’s oldest daughter was just six months old, she began her search. She could not find any instructors or programs close by that would teach the amazing skills she had seen advertised. She spent the next two years contacting instructors and reaching out to programs, asking them to come to the area. During that time, she enrolled her daughter in traditional group lessons and semi-private lessons but realized that these classes only gave her young child a false sense of security around the water and not the true skills she would need to save herself. In the summer of 2017, she was able to convince an instructor to travel to the area to teach survival swim training in her pool. She excitedly watched the magic happen as her two young daughters, ages 2 and 3, learned a swim-float-swim technique and became independent in the water.

In 2019 Laura’s third daughter was born, and she was again struggling to find a survival swim skills instructor. She decided it was time to consider making her passion for water safety into a mission to permanently bring instruction to her area. Laura knew it would be a while before her family dynamics would allow her to take this on. She was fortunate to find another instructor to travel to her pool and complete two summer sessions to get her daughter and several other children skilled.

Laura has had the opportunity to watch her three youngest children with very different personalities complete training with two different instructors. She is excited and eager to bring swimsprout to Delaware. With Delaware being heavily surrounded by water, Laura wants to reach as many families as possible to get their children the necessary skills needed to remain safe around any body of water.
